When Does a Septic Tank Need to Be Pumped?

Most Houston area septic tanks need pumping every three to five years, but the tank tells you when it cannot wait. Slow drains, gurgling pipes, sewage odor near the drain field, standing water over the tank, or a high level alarm all mean the tank should be pumped now.

Signs Your Tank Is Full Right Now

  • Toilets and drains running slow throughout the house, not just in one fixture
  • Gurgling in the pipes when a washing machine or tub empties
  • Sewage smell near the tank lid or over the drain field
  • Bright green, spongy grass or standing water above the tank
  • A high level alarm sounding on a system with a pump chamber
  • Sewage backing up into the lowest drain in the building

How Often Should You Schedule a Pump Out?

Three to five years is the general rule for a household of four on a standard tank. Pump more often if you have a garbage disposal, a larger household, a home business that runs heavy water use, or a tank on the small side for the property. Commercial properties, job site holding tanks, and portable restroom banks run on a much shorter cycle, sometimes weekly or daily. If you are unsure where your system stands, book a routine septic tank cleaning and inspection and we will tell you what schedule your tank actually needs.

How a Buck Waste Septic Pump Out Works

Every pump out follows the same five steps, run by our own technicians. Buck Waste does not subcontract septic work. Lead technician Marck Rosas services both our portable sanitation fleet and our septic accounts, so the person at your property has done this thousands of times.

  1. We Quote Before We Dispatch

You call, we ask for tank size, last pump date, and address, and you get a price. No truck rolls without you knowing the number.

  2. Locate and Open the Tank

We locate and open the access lid. If the lid is buried, we tell you before we start digging and what that adds.

  3. Pump the Full Volume

The vacuum truck removes liquid, sludge, and the scum layer. A partial pump out that leaves the sludge behind is the most common shortcut in this trade, and it is why some tanks fail again within months.

  4. Check the Tank While It Is Empty

With the tank empty our technician looks at baffle condition, inlet and outlet, and water level behavior. If something is wrong, you hear it that day rather than at the next backup.

  5. Legal Disposal and a Clean Site

Waste is hauled and disposed under Texas Commission on Environmental Quality standards. Buck Waste LLC is TCEQ registered under number 26592 and carries a $1 million general liability and pollution liability policy. We follow OSHA safety practices on every job, and we leave the lid seated and the area clean.

Emergency Septic Pumping in Houston and East Harris County

When a tank overflows, a lift station fills, or sewage backs up into a building, the pump out cannot wait for next week. Call (832) 761-2825. Orders placed before 12 PM are pumped the same day across our Houston service area, and our routes run daily out of Crosby, which puts our trucks close to Baytown, Highlands, Channelview, Dayton, and Liberty.

What to Do Before the Truck Arrives

  • Stop all water use in the building, including laundry and dishwashers
  • Keep people and pets away from any standing sewage or soft ground over the tank
  • Do not open the tank yourself. Septic gases are dangerous and lids can fail under weight
  • Find the last pumping record if you have one, and note the tank size

Storm season on the Gulf Coast is when this line gets busiest. Heavy rain saturates drain fields and pushes marginal systems into failure, and it is the same week every septic truck in the county is booked. If your system already runs slow going into the season, pump it before the storm rather than during it.

High Volume and Commercial Septic Pumping for Job Sites and Plants

Buck Waste handles high volume pumping for construction sites, industrial facilities, and plant turnarounds across the Houston Ship Channel corridor. About 80 percent of our work is construction and industrial, and we regularly run plant shutdowns with more than 20 units serviced once a day. If your project produces more waste than a residential tank, you are our normal customer, not an exception.

What We Pump on Commercial and Industrial Sites

  • Job site waste holding tanks and temporary sanitation systems
  • Portable restroom banks and trailer waste tanks on long duration projects
  • Commercial septic systems for shops, offices, and facilities outside city sewer
  • Turnaround and shutdown sanitation with daily service while the job runs
  • Recurring scheduled pumping on a route, billed on contract

Built for the Pace of a Turnaround

A shutdown does not pause because a tank filled up. Buck Waste runs turnarounds with more than 20 units cleaned daily and pumps on the same schedule, so sanitation never becomes the thing that stops the job. We are a single vendor for the whole site: portable restrooms, hand wash stations, holding tanks, and the pumping that keeps all of it running. One call, one invoice, one crew that already knows your gate. For the full turnaround setup, including OSHA unit ratios and daily service, see porta potty rentals for plant shutdowns.

Buck Waste LLC is TCEQ registered under number 26592 and carries a $1 million general liability and pollution liability policy, and we can provide certificates of insurance for procurement. We accept credit card and ACH and bill commercial accounts by contract.

A Licensed, Family Owned Crew Out of Crosby, TX

Buck Waste was founded in August 2024 by Enrique Sebastian Solano, who spent eight years running a CNC machine shop before starting the company with his wife to serve the fast growing communities northeast of Houston. It is family owned and minority owned, a HUB business and a member of the Crosby Huffman Chamber of Commerce. In under two years the company has supplied more than 1,000 job sites and completed over 20,000 portable restroom cleanings, and bought its first new service truck at the end of 2025.

The crew is small on purpose. Marck Rosas is our lead technician and services both septic tanks and portable sanitation. Kelvin Rios handles deliveries, pickups, and service routes. Rylee Holloway runs the office at 2529 Kennings Rd in Crosby, plans the daily routes, and answers the phone between 8 AM and 5:30 PM. There is no call center, and the person who quotes your job is the person who schedules the truck.

Septic Tank Pumping FAQs

How much does it cost to pump a septic tank in Houston?

Pumping starts at $425 per 1,000 gallons. The final price depends on the volume pumped, how accessible your tank lid is, and where you are in our service area. Call (832) 761-2825 and we will price it on the phone, with a price match guarantee against any comparable local quote.

Can you pump my septic tank the same day?

Yes, in most of our service area if you call before 12 PM. For weekend work, book by 5 PM on Thursday. Our routes run daily out of Crosby, so Baytown, Highlands, Channelview, Dayton, and Liberty are usually same day.

What is the difference between septic pumping and septic cleaning?

Pumping removes the liquid and solids from the tank. Cleaning goes further and addresses the sludge and scum layers along with a check of the system's condition. If your tank is full or backing up, you need pumping. If you are on a maintenance schedule, see our septic tank cleaning and inspection page.

Do I need to find or uncover the tank lid before you arrive?

It helps and it keeps your cost down, but it is not required. Our technician can locate the lid. If it is buried, we tell you what that adds before we start digging. Never open the lid yourself: septic gases are hazardous and older lids can fail under weight.

Do you pump holding tanks and job site waste tanks?

Yes. We pump waste holding tanks, portable restroom banks, and temporary sanitation systems on construction and industrial sites, including recurring service during plant turnarounds where units are serviced daily.

How long does a septic pump out take?

A standard residential tank with an accessible lid is usually done within an hour on site. Larger commercial tanks, multiple tanks, or a buried lid take longer. We give you a window when we schedule.

Is Buck Waste licensed to haul and dispose of septic waste in Texas?

Yes. Buck Waste LLC is registered with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality under number 26592 and carries a $1 million general liability and pollution liability policy. Waste is disposed at approved facilities under TCEQ standards, and we can provide certificates of insurance for commercial accounts.

Can you set up recurring pumping for a commercial property?

Yes. Recurring pumping is billed on contract and scheduled into our daily routes, which is how most of our construction and industrial accounts run. Call the Crosby office and we will build the schedule around your site.
